County Cricket Ground in Hove, known as the 1st Central County Ground for corporate sponsorship purposes, is a cricket stadium in East Sussex, England. Since 1872, most of Sussex’ home games have been played at the County Ground due to its central location and suitability for hosting big events like concerts and circuses.

Sussex CCC have continued to play some of their games away from The County Ground, at either Arundel Castle and Horsham. It was the country’s first cricket ground to have permanent floodlights, for day/night cricket matches and the second venue (after Edgbaston) to host a day/night match in England.

Is County Ground Hove Batting Or Bowling Pitch?

The majority of Hove’s deliveries have gone to the batter’s side, making it a nice hitting surface. As a result, bowlers from both sides are in contention. Because of the due consideration, the toss-winning captain must choose whether to bowl first or bat second.

History

Hove has been the focal point of cricket in Sussex since 1791, when the Prince Regent donated a plot of land to the local players. This Palace Ground was used by the county squad from 1815 onwards, but it was also an excellent construction site and sold for development in 1847 like many other grounds.

Sussex County Cricket Club is the oldest county cricket club in existence, having been established in 1839. Until Brighton’s expansions engulfed it again, all of their home matches were played at the Royal Brunswick ground near the sea front. The Sandford Estate, which was on the outskirts of the village, had a field with a good barley crop that was bought by the club in 1871. The turf was removed from Brunswick and replaced in its current location at the county ground where the first game against Kent took place in 1872 after the barley had been harvested.

The pavilion has evolved in size as the requirements of each generation have changed. It has several levels of balconies, odd stairways, and a steeply banked seating terrace that provide for a square view of the wicket. The interior walls are covered with photographs and a glass case houses Joe Vine’s early equipment, as well as Harry
