History

The Wankhede Stadium was completed in approximately 13 months and opened in time for the Last Test between India and the West Indies in 1975. Since then, the Wankhede Stadium has taken over as Mumbai’s primary cricket venue, replacing Brabourne Stadium. In 1974, it was named after Barrister Sheshrao Wankhede, the Association’s President.
