History

The stadium’s first ODI was played against Pakistan in which Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored his maiden one-day international century (148) in 2005. It became a Test venue after gaining Test status, and hosted its debut test match between India and England in November 2016. India defeated England by 246 runs in the game. In February 2016, the Stadium saw its first T20I, when India faced Sri Lanka, during which Ravichandran Ashwin took 4 wickets for 8 runs to bowl out Sri Lanka for 83.

The stadium has hosted IPL matches before, and it was the home ground of the Deccan Chargers in 2012 and the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2015. Along with the Rising Pune Supergiants and Mumbai Indians in 2016.
