Guangdong International Cricket Stadium, located in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China, is a modern and multi-purpose facility primarily used for cricket but also hosts events such as Australian football, rugby tens, rugby union, and touch rugby. Situated within the Guangdong University of Technology’s Higher Education Mega Centre, the stadium spans an area of 6,355 m² and has a seating capacity of 12,000 spectators. It was officially established in 2010 and has become an important venue for international cricket events, hosting the first-ever international-level cricket matches played in China. The stadium was granted permission by the International Cricket Council to host One Day International and Twenty20 cricket matches. Notably, it hosted cricket competitions during the 2010 Asian Games, including both men’s and women’s tournaments, and also served as the venue for the 2012 Women’s Asia Cup Cricket tournament. The stadium’s construction began in May 2008, but for over a year, it remained little more than a flattened patch of mud. By August 2009, significant development had taken place, and the ground became operational. The stadium now employs a full-time Bangladeshi curator, Jasimuddin, who previously managed the Kinrara Oval in Malaysia. Designed by Chinese architects, the materials used for the stadium were sourced locally from Guangdong Province, with the wicket square featuring clay from Shaanxi Province in central China. The certified seed turf for the ground was imported by the Chinese Cricket Association from the United States, ensuring a top-quality playing surface.
