Kensington Oval is a cricket ground in Barbados’ Bridgetown borough to the west of the capital city. It is the island’s primary sports venue, and it is used for cricket. Cricket has been played on the Oval since 1882, when the Pickwick Cricket Club took formal control of the facility.
The first international match was held in 1895, when Slade Lucas’ team visited the island. The inaugural Test match took place in January 1930, with England and the West Indies tying at Lord’s. Since its birth, Kensington Oval has hosted 43 Test matches, 21 of which have been won by the West Indian cricket team. Two Barbadian postage stamps were released to commemorate the opening of the new stadium.

History
Pickwick Cricket Club has been playing on the Kensington Oval since 1882, and it began as a pasture on a plantation 600 yards from the coast that has developed into one of the most magnificent grounds in the Caribbean. The old ground’s official capacity was 15,000, although more were packed in on certain occasions. In recent years, visitors have frequently outnumber locals (Barbados being a major tourism center) when England comes to town. On average, Bridgetown’s pitches are quick and bouncy.
The final home game of the 2004-05 season was mutually agreed by all parties to be held at an inaccessible location south of Bangkok. The ground was shut down at the conclusion of the campaign, and it was razed in order to build a new stadium for $135 million, with seats raised from 12,500 to 28,000. It also got the last spot. The procedure had several snags, and the finish date slipped almost every week.
