Queens Park is a prominent park in Invercargill, New Zealand, and was part of the original plan when the city was founded in 1856. The park spans 200 acres (0.81 km²) and is located just north of the city centre, bordered by Queens Drive to the east, Kelvin Street to the west, Gala Street to the south, and Herbert Street to the north. The Gala Street entrance features the Feldwick Gates, built in 1924 and named after John Feldwick, the brother of MP Henry Feldwick. The park is home to a variety of attractions, including an 18-hole golf course, botanical gardens, an aviary, and sports grounds. It also hosts the Southland Museum and Art Gallery and the Southland Astronomical Society Observatory. The cricket ground within the park serves as the home ground for the Southland cricket team and is frequently used by the Otago cricket team for first-class and one-day matches. However, in September 2021, the cricket ground lost its first-class status due to drainage issues. Additionally, the park is associated with the Queens Park A.F.C., one of Invercargill’s football clubs.

Type Of Pitch
The cricket pitch at Queens Park, like many others in New Zealand, is known to favor fast bowlers. The proximity of the stadium to the sea results in a lot of swing, while the seam and bounce offer assistance to fast bowlers, especially during the early overs. The conditions resemble those found in South Africa, with added wind that further challenges the batsmen. Batting can be difficult, and players often need time to adjust to the conditions, particularly with the unpredictable bounce and swing that the pitch offers. The weather in Invercargill, characterized by its cool and variable climate, can further add to the challenge for the batsmen.
