Pakistan, in preparation for the World Cup of 1996, opens a new Test venue in Rawalpindi for the second Test against Zimbabwe. Karachi hosted Pakistan’s first Test match, and Rawalpindi becomes the country’s 14th Test venue. The recently constructed stadium has capacity for 15,000 spectators perched on the outskirts of Karachi, which has a population of almost four million people and is only three miles from Islamabad. Sri Lanka was the last opponent for Pakistan when it used Rawalpindi to stage its fifth one-day international in January 2016.
