History

In 1924, English miners created Willowmoore Park, home of Easterns Cricket, which took its name from the willow trees that surrounded the field and the moor that is found at the back of the ground. The Denis Compton 300 in 181 minutes against North Eastern Transvaal at Newlands Cricket Ground was one of the new international cricketing sites on South Africa’s calendar.

The ground has been altered significantly over the years, from the old to the contemporary. A world-class players facility, expanded seating (capacity now 20,000), a four-story Media Centre, an LED electronic scoreboard, and various spectator facility improvements have improved both players’ and spectators’ comfort.
