Karnataka State Cricket Association Stadium, popularly known as the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, is a cricket ground in Bangalore, India. This five-decade-old stadium is located in the city’s heart, flanked by picturesque Cubbon Park, Queen’s Road, Cubbon Avenue and uptown MG Road. It has a capacity of 40,000 spectators and regularly hosts Test matches, One Day Internationals (ODIs), Twenty20 Internationals (T20i) as well as other First-class cricket games and musical and cultural events. The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is the home venue of both the Karnataka state cricket team and Royal Challengers Bangalore, one of India’s two premier Twenty20 franchises. It is administered by the Government of Karnataka and has been leased to the Karnataka State Cricket Association for a century.

History

  • It was formerly known as the Karnataka State Cricket Association Stadium, and it was renamed after Mangalam Chinnaswamy, a lawyer from Mandya who served as the founding member of the Mysore State Cricket Association. He was president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from 1977 to 1980 and has served on countless boards over his four-decade career.
  • It is the first cricket venue in the world to integrate solar panel technology into its energy supply. This has been supplied as part of the “Go Green” program started by the KSCA. It has hosted 22 Tests, 24 ODIs, and will continue to do so until at least 13 January 2020.
