The ground houses both the University of Otago Cricket Association and the University of Otago Rugby Football Club, as well as serving as a training site for the New Zealand Highlanders rugby club. History

The University Oval ground is located in Logan Park, which was built on the silted-up Otago Harbour inlet between 1913 and 1920. The Park has a variety of sports grounds, as well as the cricket stadium, which is home to the Caledonian Ground, Otago’s major football (soccer) venue.

The Otago Cricket Stadium is located in the beautiful hills of central New Zealand’s South Island and was originally built for cricket in 1978. It has hosted several international matches, including a Test in 1994, but because so much rain was lost and the facilities and groundstaff received a lot of criticism, it wasn’t used until December 2008 when it hosted its second Test against West Indies. It became New Zealand’s seventh Test venue in 2007-08, although its first since 1978-79 when New Zealand played Pakistan at Eden Park ( Hagley Oval).
