Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium) is a cricket stadium in Chittagong, Bangladesh, located on the banks of the Chambal River.It was formerly known as Bir Shrestha Shahid Ruhul Amin Stadium and has a capacity of 22,500 people approx & abbreviated as ZAC Stadium. It became a Test cricket venue on February 27, 2006 when Sri Lanka hosted Bangladesh in a Test match. It was one of the six venues for the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup’s group stage matches. There are around 20,000 seats available.On 17 June 2001, the Bangladesh Awami League government changed the name of the stadium to Zahur Ahmad Chowdhury Stadium. In October 2001, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party government renamed it Ruhul Amin Stadium. It reverted to its original name in 2009 after the Bangladesh Awami League won power again.

The Chittagong Cricket Stadium is the main cricket site in the port city. The M. A. Aziz Stadium was formerly Chittagong’s major cricket venue, but it now focuses on football. It also houses the Bangladesh Premier League franchise, the Chittagong Vikings.

The stadium hosted its first international match when the Afghan national cricket team played against Pakistan in September 2018. The IPL franchise, the Lucknow Super Giants, also plays there. It was designated as the third home venue for the Afghanistan national cricket team by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in July 2019.

History

In February 2021, in the first test between Bangladesh and Wes Indies, West Indies won the encounter by 3 wickets, chasing 395 runs, due to debutant Kyle Mayers’s 210* (fifth-highest successful run chase in test cricket and highest successful run chase on Asian soil), which was fifth-highest successful run chase in test cricket. Mayers became the first batsman to score a double century on debut and overall sixth batsman to achieve the feat in fourth innings of a test.
