History

  • The Stadium is an indoor and outdoor facility that opened in 1997 on Queenstown Lakes District Council–owned property. The stadium has a capacity of 19,000 people with 6,000 permanent seats and 13,000 temporary seats.
  • The ground, commonly known as “the Place,” is regarded as one of the world’s most beautiful international cricket grounds, located between the base of the Remarkables and Lake Wakatipu’s beaches, with Queenstown International Airport’s Runway threshold providing stunning views of major planes taking off and landing. The venue regularly hosts international cricket games, Highlanders rugby matches, trade shows, exhibitions, seminars, and concerts. It’s also utilized by Otago Cricket for List A cricket matches.
  • On January 1, 2014, Corey Anderson of New Zealand shattered Shahid Afridi’s 17-year-old record for the quickest One Day International hundred by one ball, finishing with his in 36 balls. He ended unbeaten with an 131 that included 14 sixes and 6 fours. With Jesse Ryder, he helped New Zealand set the ODI team record for most sixes in an innings.
