National Cricket Stadium (St Georges) – Pitch Report

Nantion cricket stadium pitch report

The National Cricket Stadium, formerly known as St. George Cricket Grounds, was a prominent baseball venue on Staten Island, New York. It hosted the New York Metropolitans in the 1886 and 1887 seasons and briefly served as a home for the New York Giants in 1889. Originally built as a horse race track grandstand, the venue began hosting baseball games in 1853, with the first match between the New York Knickerbockers and the Washington Club. Over time, it became part of the development of the St. George community. However, as baseball struggled in the area, the Mets folded after 1887, and the grounds were eventually used for other forms of entertainment. The Giants briefly played there in 1889 before moving back to Manhattan. Today, the site is occupied by Empire Outlets, a shopping center.

National Cricket Stadium Is Batting Pitch Or Bowling Pitch?

The National Cricket Stadium leans slightly towards a bowling-friendly pitch, especially in the early stages of the game.

In Tests, teams bowling first have enjoyed greater success. In ODIs, chasing sides have a marginal advantage, indicating that early bowling conditions can influence the outcome. In T20 matches, batting first has produced slightly better results, but the average scores suggest a competitive surface rather than a high-scoring one.

Pitch Verdict: Balanced but slightly bowling-favoring, especially early on.

Toss Prediction

The team winning the toss is likely to choose to bowl first.

Given that bowling-first teams have recorded more wins in ODIs and Tests, captains often prefer exploiting early movement and bounce before the pitch settles.

Who Will Win / Match Winner Prediction

Batting 45%
Bowling 55%

  • Include technically strong top-order batters who can handle seam movement.

  • Select 2–3 all-rounders for balance.

  • Death-over bowlers and middle-overs spinners can provide bonus fantasy points.

The National Cricket Stadium generally offers good bounce and seam movement early on. Fast bowlers benefit from Caribbean humidity and surface pace. As the match progresses, the pitch becomes more batting-friendly, while spinners may come into play in longer formats.

It is not typically a flat, high-scoring surface but rather a competitive wicket that rewards disciplined bowling and patient batting.

Nantional Cricket ground: Head to Head

Historical trends show bowling-first teams holding a slight edge, particularly in longer formats. However, in limited-overs cricket, posting a strong total above average first-innings scores significantly increases winning chances.
