Dr. B. Hazarika Cricket Stadium, often known as Barsapara Cricket Stadium or Assam Cricket Association Stadium, is a cricket stadium in Guwahati, Assam, India. The project’s overall cost was around Rs 2,300 billion. It was opened by Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal on October 10th 2017. The Cricket Stadium is India’s 49th international cricket venue and its first international cricket match took place here when India played Australia T20I in October 2018. It is a brand-new stadium that hosts both domestic and international matches.

In 2010, the stadium was renamed in memory of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, Assam Cricket Association’s founder and patron saint of cricket. It is India’s largest sports venue.

History

  • The East Zone Senior Women’s Inter-Zone One-Day Championship match between Assam and Odisha on 4 November 2012 was the first game to be staged at the ground. In the 2013-14 Ranji Trophy season, the stadium hosted four games in first-class cricket. The inaugural first-class fixture took place when Assam battled Kerala.
  • On October 10, the stadium was used for its first T20 game. The match, which featured Australia against hosts India, ended in a 8-wicket Australian victory. 38,132 people attended the new facility’s inaugural game, played between Australia and India on October 10.
  • The stadium hosted the first Women’s International Cricket in March 2019, when it was home to the Indian women’s cricket team. England women’s cricket team met India women’s cricket team in three WT20I matches. The Englishwomen’s cricket team won the series 3-0.
