Mumbai Indians made a smart move by signing Cameron Green for an impressive INR 17.50 crore – making him the second-most expensive IPL player ever. Last season, the Mumbai Indians put major investments into Ishan Kishan & Jofra Archer to create a team that could thrive in the future. This year, they took their game up a notch by spending an incredible amount of 17.50 crore to acquire Australian all-rounder Cameron Green.
After an intense bidding competition against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians acquired the highly sought-after player. Green created history by becoming the second most expensive player in IPL history, registering at a base price of Rs. 2 crore. MI also signed Jhye Richardson for INR 1.5 crore to strengthen their team.
In the later stages, they added Piyush Chawla, Duan Jansen, Shams Mulani, Nehal Vadhera and Vishnu Vinod to their squad at base prices. Mumbai Indians, having won the IPL five times, are well known for their prudent spending in auctions. Heading into IPL 2023, they had Rs. 20.55 crores and nine slots to fill up including three overseas players. Last season was not a memorable one for them as they finished at the bottom of the points table.
